“Ask A Journalist” Office Hours

During each "Ask a Journalist" session, one of our Master Editors will live-edit a few drafts of op-eds or pitches and will answer your questions in real-time. Please submit both a pitch and draft for your op-ed idea via the form below if you would like your work to be considered - and so we can best support you to get your ideas out into the world!

Drafts and pitches must be submitted by Thursday at 8:00 am EST to be considered for that day’s session.

Submitting your work does not guarantee that your work will be selected. You will get extremely valuable insights into how a professional editor/journalist works and thinks, that will be immediately applicable, whether or not your draft is selected.

A pitch is the note you will send to editors to introduce them to your op-ed. It is your first opportunity to establish credibility, capture interest, and convey the immediate relevance of your point of view. Pitches should be 250 words or less.

Your piece must meet The OpEd Project's definition of an op-ed: a timely, evidence-based argument of public value. It should be approximately 650-750 words. We will not consider drafts longer than 1000 words. NOTE: This form does not recognize hyperlinks. If your draft has hyperlinks, paste them at the end of your draft.
