LIANE HERNANDEZ

senior program manager, FELLOWSHIPS

LIANE HERNANDEZ is the Senior Program Manager of the Public Voices Fellowships Team. Trained at the University of Arizona and Pima Community College as an art historian, chef, and cultural anthropologist, she is a student of what community is, who gets to participate, when, and how.

A member of the Tucson nonprofit arts community for many years, she has served as staff and on boards, committees, and grant review panels and was a founder of Raices Taller 222. She currently sits on the Bond Oversight Commission at the request of the City Manager. She serves on the board of directors of Just Communities Arizona as Secretary and the Tucson City of Gastronomy member at large. She graduated from the 2021 class (Cohort 14) at Lodestar American Express Leadership Academy. Liane has been a staff member of Tucson Meet Yourself since 2014, was a 2016 Fellow of the Tucson Voices of the OpEd Project, a Commissioner with the Pima Tucson Women’s Commission, and part of the Latino Graduate Training Seminar on Qualitative Methodology at the Smithsonian Institute. She received the 2022 Frances McClelland Institute Vision Award and was recognized as the 2015 Adelita Del Año by Las Adelitas PAC.

Liane joined The OpEd Project team because she is passionate about community and equitable access to something resembling justice for all, and she knows that more voices at the tables of decision-making and in the streets is how we get there. In their spare time, Liane dreams of having a cafe, reading under a tree, and living slowly.
