Ambassadors

OVERVIEW

As part of our commitment to sharing leadership and inspiration across The OpEd Project community, we invite a handful of exceptional individuals to return and re-experience our core “Write to Change the World” public workshops as Ambassadors.

Ambassadors are people who exemplify our mission of inclusive leadership, have experienced meaningful impact as a result of our work, and want to pay it forward. They spread positive energy in their communities, as well as in our rooms.

Before joining our workshop leadership teams, Ambassadors receive an hour-long orientation in The OpEd Project's method of transformational facilitation to prepare them for their essential role in supporting participants in our core "Write to change the World" workshops.

We follow an innovative social justice model, in which each workshop is designed to run at cost (without profit or loss) while allowing as many scholarships as possible (typically at least 20% of every room). These workshops are open to everyone across color, creed, class, gender, orientation, age, ability and beyond, regardless of means. As always, we seek to overrepresent the underrepresented.

Today, our workshops are 100% virtual, and we run multiple workshops each month, with global cohorts of 50+ people. Our Ambassador community is also global, and Ambassadors work in teams, of 5-7 Ambassadors per Workshop. Ambassadors may join any workshop where there is a match between our needs and their schedule.

Expectations

  • Attend an Ambassador Orientation in FULL (60 minutes) and complete a Volunteer Agreement.

  • Participate in FULL for all parts of the workshop to which you are assigned: a total of ~8 hours each time (arrive 30 minutes prior to the public start to prepare with the team AND participate in a 15-minute debrief after the workshop closes).

  • Welcome workshop participants and share the meaningful impact you experienced as a result of this work, and why this work matters to you.

  • Guide a “homeroom” of ~10 people, facilitating discussion within the group, which will reunite multiple times over the course of the workshop.

  • Model inclusive leadership and positive energy/engagement throughout

  • Spread the word about our work and mission far and wide!
