Public Voices Fellowship

Columbia University launched its inaugural Public Voices Fellowship in 2014, and has signed on for a five-year commitment with the fellowship initiative. The inaugural fellowship cohort represented a deliriously rich cross-pollination of fields and disciplines, bringing together medical practitioners, public health researchers, literary scholars, historians and artists. The New York Times published a joint letter from 14 Columbia fellows, recommending caution in response to an Ebola panic in New York City in the fall of 2014. Reddit, one of the top five sites on the internet, subsequently hosted a group of fellows in an “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) that over 250,000 people logged into, to ask questions and read the fellows’ answers.
