PRIVATE EDITORIAL COACHING

Work one-on-one with an OpEd Project journalist COACH

Our Private Editorial Coaching service is for members of The OpEd Project community who are seeking individualized expert guidance while developing their public voice, and who want more dedicated editorial support than we can provide through our Fellowships, Workshops, or Mentor-Editor Program. Private Editorial Coaches are experienced journalists, columnists and editors who have been vetted by The OpEd Project and are part of our mission of inclusive leadership. Our Private Editorial Coaching service is exclusively for members of The OpEd Project community. If you are not already an alum or fellow, please register for an OpEd Project ”Write To Change The World” workshop before requesting an editorial coach.

How it works

  • Private Editorial Coaching support can include brainstorming ideas, coaching around themes, copy editing, or pitching advice. Coaches will provide feedback and encouragement on the development of your idea(s), or on the strategy or logistics of pitching them. Coaches will not pitch op-eds on your behalf.

  • All of our Coaches are highly experienced journalists and editors, and all are carefully vetted by The OpEd Project. We endeavor to make the best possible matches, based on your area of writing interest or expertise and on the Coaches’ availability and background.

  • You can apply to be matched with a Private Coach via our short form (below). You can purchase a package of 10 or 25 hours to be used over three months, or 50 hours to be used within six months.

  • Once matched, you and your Coach will have an initial 20-minute call to discuss goals and interests to ensure it is a good fit - with no obligation. If you and the Coach agree to move forward, your coaching period will begin according to a mutually agreed schedule. Your Coach will track hours as they are used up, in an online form that will be shared with you.

  • Unused hours will expire and are non-refundable. The reason for this is to encourage action, and also to respect our Coaches’ time.

Results

"I can’t begin to tell you just how important this was for me to do and how life-changing it has been. Chloe is amazing and so is this program. Thank you again." — Christine Ristaino

Christine Ristaino, a Professor of Italian Studies at Emory University and memoirist based in Atlanta, GA, uses her public writing to challenge and change the paradigms around sexual assault. She published three pieces during a recent 10-Hour Private Editorial Coaching Package with Chloe Angyal: an open letter to all Americans who have been sexually abused, assaulted, oppressed, or harassed and a timely reflection on what we owe survivors in Visible Magazine, as well as a piece on coping with family after public truth-telling in Ms. Magazine.
