ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an amazing position for a humble leader who wishes to have a career in social change and be a social entrepreneur, in particular at the nexus of media, social justice, entrepreneurism, and thought leadership. Prior experience working within or with universities would be valuable in this role because of our partnership and expansion opportunities in that space.

Our team is small, mighty, and rapidly growing. Currently, business development is a part of most team member’s portfolios. The Director will centralize some business development activities and amplify and expand the business development work that other team members do. This position requires excellent strategic thinking and planning skill and the willingness and ability to roll up your sleeves and do the work, in partnership with other team members. RESPONSIBILITIES
• Business Development and Impact Growth Strategy – Looking through the lens of expanding our scope of impact and advancing our mission, develop strategy to cultivate + grow partnerships with existing partners, identify + develop partnerships with new partners, and evaluate + move into new revenue streams.
• Revenue Forecasting – Lead the OEP team in building a partnerships pipeline. Work with Finance Manager to develop accurate revenue forecasts based on different revenue models and assumptions.
• Revenue Generation – Work with entire OEP team to deliver top-notch programs and generate revenue from existing and new partnerships and projects.
• Contract Management -- Coordinate closely with the Program and Finance teams on proposal preparation, contract execution, and project implementation.
• Best Practice Process and Procedures – Develop, document, and articulate an OEP standard of best practice around partnership and business development, modeling best practices for others on the team and making it possible for partnership and business development to be a team effort. Superior use of Salesforce to keep careful and timely records about status of all relationships.
• Fundraising – Lead and support foundation, government and individual fundraising efforts, including grant research and evaluation, proposal writing and submission, and writing grant reports.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The OpEd Project is seeking a highly organized, very personable, execution-oriented Human Resources and Operations Associate to join us as we launch an exciting period of growth in 2017. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Associate will coordinate and support a wide range of activities. In the HR area, the Associate will coordinate OpEd efforts to recruit, interview and select new team members. S/he will also support onboarding of new team members, and will manage new employee paperwork. S/he will also assist with development of people-policies and a range of people operations activities including administering benefits, paid time off and access to office tools and systems such as Dropbox and slack.

The Associate will also support business development efforts, strategic planning, implementation of client programs, communications projects, purchasing for the organization, and office management work. S/he will also support scheduling for out CEO and COO.

The ideal Human Resources and Operations Associate will thrive in an informal, fast-paced, startup environment and will be excited to wear many hats and have a broad portfolio of responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be highly resourceful and able to shift priorities quickly. A customer-service mindset is critical in this role. Responsibilities:

Facilitator & Fellowship Leader (Part Time)

Location: Any major U.S. city

As we continue to grow, The OpEd Project continuously builds our team of Facilitators and Fellowship Leaders. We are predominantly working journalists and thought leaders with a track record of high-impact writing, extensive commentary experience, a gift for transformational facilitation and coaching (or the willingness to learn, through our intensive training process), and a deep commitment to forging a more inclusive world. This part-time role is equal parts work and passion. For most of us, the role compliments our more traditional work as a journalist, writer, or teacher (we may have a column or book in the works, or may be teaching at a journalism school, for example). We are a tight-knit team of twenty-five and growing, working with 100s of partners nationwide, to broaden the demographics of voice and change history.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

Those who are selected to join our team will receive intensive training in The OpEd Project method of transformational facilitation. After completing our extensive training and certification process, our Senior Facilitators are assigned to lead OpEd Project programs around the nation and the world, including especially our prestigious Public Voices Fellowships embedded in leading institutions such as Yale, Columbia, Northwestern, Ford Foundation, etc. These programs and fellowships are based on The OpEd Project's widely-acclaimed curriculum and methods, designed to accelerate the ideas and public impact of underrepresented thinkers (including women), and to trigger meaningful change on a personal and collective level. Senior Facilitators and Fellowship leaders work in teams of three to mentor, train, and transform a cadre of exceptional thinkers into public intellectuals over the course of a year. We have a stunningly successful model. Our Facilitator and Fellowship Leader positions are highly rewarding with a lot of flexibility. Facilitators and Fellowship Leaders can be located in any major U.S. city.  Travel to fellowship sites is required four times a year, for 1-2 days, and travel to our annual national 3-day team leadership retreat is required for facilitators who wish to lead at the senior facilitator level. Facilitators participate in weekly and monthly calls with OpEd Project teams across the nation, and forge relationships with approximately 10 high-level mentees with whom they communicate virtually and regularly throughout the year, on a weekly or sometimes daily basis.  Facilitators must manage time and expectations accordingly, while always being responsive to deadlines. Basic contracts are part-time (recommended 10-15 hours/week, although actual hours may ebb and flow). Senior team members may take on more extensive contracts, and may be invited to lead short (one-day or multi-day) programs across the U.S., as well as internationally, for additional compensation. Accountability to results, ability to work as part of a tightly-focused and fast-moving team, and an ongoing commitment to and investment in our mission is key. 


RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilitators and Fellowship Leaders have the opportunity to: 

•  Train in and (once certified) deliver The OpEd Project's transformational, game-based "Mattering" curriculum, including: how to understand knowledge in the most purposeful context, think in new and bigger ways, address opposition and change minds, shift conversation, think and write with clarity and resonance, accelerate cross-pollination, forge a legacy of impact that ripples out over generations, etc. 

•  Create relationships with some of the world's most brilliant minds – including awarded professors at some of the country's most prestigious universities, key figures at think tanks, foundations, and nonprofits, as well as grassroots organizers and entrepreneurs   

•  Coach these thought leaders in re-conceptualizing the value of their own knowledge to others, coming up with and framing ideas of public value and relevance

•  Edit op-eds on a range of topics, from climate change to technology and culture 

•  Pitch op-eds, when appropriate, to media outlets with whom The OpEd Project has relationships, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, TED, The Stanford Social Innovation Review, Huffington Post, etc. 

 

QUALITIES

•  Track record of high-impact writing/editing in vetted outlets with large audiences

COMPENSATION 

Following an intensive training and certification process in our methodology, Facilitators and Fellowship Leaders will be compensated a competitive honorarium starting at $2K/month for a basic contract (about 1/4 time), and increasing with time and experience. Top facilitators may scale up (working 1/2 time or more), and may also be offered the opportunity to lead short (day-long or multi-day) programs in the U.S. and internationally, on an as-needed basis, for additional compensation.

The Demographics of Voice Internship

The OpEd Project offers programs ranging from one-day Write to Change the World programs to year-long Public Voices Fellowships. We are an income-generating social venture, funded almost entirely by earned revenue from our programs.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The OpEd Project is seeking highly organized, personable, execution-oriented Interns to join us as we launch an exciting period of growth in 2017. Working with all members of the OpEd team, the Intern will support a wide range of programmatic, operational and planning activities, including supporting programs through outreach, keeping track of registrations, researching participants before sessions, and documenting seminars; research for strategic planning and business development; development of draft content for the OpEd website; purchasing; data entry and management; and office management.
The OpEd Internships provide an opportunity to experience running a business that advances diversity in media, and are amazing positions for young professionals who wish to be social entrepreneurs, in particular at the nexus of media, social justice, and thought leadership.

The ideal Intern will thrive in an informal, fast-paced, startup environment and will be excited to wear many hats, some of them administrative and rote, and some of them higher-level and creative, and contribute to a broad portfolio of work. The ideal candidate will be highly resourceful and able to shift priorities quickly. A customer-service mindset is critical in this role.

BENEFITS
This is a 4 days/week stipended internship with a minimum expected tenure of six months, and desired tenure of twelve months. Interns who remain for twelve months will have the opportunity to own and direct higher-level projects and will receive stronger recommendation letters that benefit from more detail about the Intern’s workstyle and contributions to OpEd. Benefits for all Interns include:

1.    Monthly stipend of $600
2.    Opportunity to participate in a "Write to Change the World" seminar, valued at $400
3.    Opportunity to participate in other OpEd training programs and multi-day leadership retreats
4.    Chance to work with the major media thought-leaders of our day
5.    For Interns that are interested in developing their own opinion pieces, the opportunity to receive guidance from well-known journalists and editors within OpEd’s Mentor-Editor community
 
QUALIFICATIONS
•    Minimum of B.A.
•    Excellent listening and communication skills
•    Exceptional organizational and time-management skills 
•    Excellent judgment – knows when to act and when to consult before acting
•    "No job is too big or too small" attitude
•    Tech savviness and desire to use technology to streamline/automate work
•    High creativity and resourcefulness
•    Experience managing social media a big plus
•    Experience using Google tools, Dropbox and other online platforms to streamline work
•    Experience using Salesforce, Mailchimp, and WordPress a plus
•    Prior work experience a major plus, paper routes count!
